Irish sea temperature today

Live readings from the Marine Institute's offshore weather buoys, updated hourly. Use them as a guide to the season, not as the temperature at your beach.

How to read these numbers

The Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI say cold water shock can occur in water below 15°C. Most Irish water is below that for much of the year. Read cold water shock and Float to Live before any open water swim, and winter sea temperatures by month for the seasonal pattern.

Wave height and wind describe conditions at the buoy, which sits far out at sea. They tell you the weather system is rough or calm, but they do not replace the Met Éireann marine forecast, local lifeguard flags or tide times at your beach. See tides and currents.
